Homework/being prepared
Student is not prepared for learning or the school environment with supplies or education activities.
Dishonesty
Lack of honesty or integrity; not being truthful
Examples: lying to avoid or deny an action.
Non-compliance or defiance
Knowingly not following the rules of a given academic or social educational activity. Student engages in brief or low intensity failure to respond to adult request or school wide agreements.
Examples: student refuses to do work initially but a short time later complies.
Insubordination & Defiant behavior
Student engages in serious disobedient or openly defiant of the authority of school personnel.
Examples: sustained refusal to follow directions, continuous oppositional behavior.
On-task or Following Instructions
Student does not follow instruction within a reasonable amount of time, not engaged in classroom activity
Examples: not taking out materials when directed, not attending to teacher during instruction, student does not acknowledge direction given.
Disrespect
Student initiates or replies with socially inappropriate verbal or non-verbal communication to any adult or peer that expresses intent that may be disruptive or defiant.
Examples: “This is stupid…”, “You are unfair…”, eye rolling, muttering under breath.
Inappropriate Language
Student engages in low intensity instances of inappropriate verbal or non verbal language such as terms or topics that are hurtful or harsh.
Examples: “You’re dumb”, “You’re fat”, talking about age inappropriate TV shows, talking about gang involvement.
Profanity towards adults/peers: Vulgar language of high intensity. It is violent, abusive, indecent, profane, boisterous, unreasonably loud or otherwise disorderly in conduct.
Examples: swearing at a staff member or other student talks back or delivers socially rude interaction, obscene gesture.
Bullying or teasing
Bullying or teasing that occurs and student does not accept adult prompting or re-direction.
Examples: Using putdowns
**Policy Violation 5517: Chronic minor incidents or bullying situations that involve verbal, physical or psychological conflicts.
Examples: harassment, hazing, hate threats or comments to staff or students
Disruption
Student engages in low-intensity, short duration and/or interruption that disrupts learning of self or others and does not accept adult prompting or re-direction.
Examples: drawing during instructional time, note passing, distracting a peer during independent work time, leaving seat repeatedly, talking when the teacher is talking.
Major disruption: Student engages in behavior causing a shutdown in a class or activity.
Examples: sustained loud talk, yelling, screaming, noise with materials, horseplay or roughhousing, sustained out of seat behavior, throwing items.
Vandalism
Student engages in low intensity misuse of classroom or school property. Damage can be cleaned or repaired easily.
Examples: marking a desk with something that can be cleaned off, intentionally clogging toilet.
Student participates in an activity that results in the destruction or disfigurement of school property.
Examples: damage to property, permanently damaging a desk, graffiti in non-classroom settings.
Fighting
Violence, physical aggression, threatening behavior. Student engages in behavior or actions involving serious physical contact where injury may occur.
Examples: hitting, punching, hitting with object, pulling hair, scratching.
Stealing
Taking property from someone else without asking permission and/or without conscious intent.
Examples: student “finds” an item and keeps it instead of returning it to student, taking a pencil from a peer
Major stealing: Student is in possession, having passed on or being responsible for removing someone else’s property or has signed a person’s name without that person’s permission.
Threat/harassment
** Policy Violation 5517: Harassment, hate threats or comments to staff or students
Weapon
** Policy Violation 5772: Any object in which the manner it is used, is intended to be used, or is represented, is capable of inflicting serious bodily harm or property damage, as well as endangering the health and safety of persons.
Examples: knives, firearms, look alikes, graphic or written representation of weapon, lighters, firecrackers, matches, body.
